Body Shop Review: Aloe Vera Vs. Vitamin E Lines

Way back in August, the fiance and I celebrated our third year anniversary by going to our local huge mall. As an anniversary present, he bought me the Vitamin E set from the Body Shop. A few weeks later, I purchased the Aloe Vera Line online (to compare the two, since these are the two brands that the clerk suggested to me). Now, I’ll be sharing my thoughts on these lines with you guys. The only thing I will not be reviewing is the Illuminating Vitamin E moisturizer because I already did a review of it by itself and you can check that out in my older posts.

The Body Shop’s Vitamin E Cream Cleanser

This cleanser was okay. It smelled great. The cleanser and toner smelled exactly like baby oil. It also felt pretty good on my face. Unfortunately, I would probably never purchase this cleanser again because while it did get my face clean and kept my acne at bay, for the most part, I bought it to put some brightness into my dull complexion. There was no change.

Vitamin E Hydrating Toner

I would say the same about the toner as well. It smelled good, but it didn’t give my face a good clean feeling. That’s something I need from my toner. This is not a repurchase for me.

Body Shop’s Aloe Vera Foaming Cleanser

I’m actually still using this one up. The biggest problem I have with this line is that the smell is pretty bad. The smell actually reminds me of plastic. But the bright side is that the smell doesn’t actually linger on your skin. There’s nothing very special about this cleanser. In fact, I feel like I have to use a ton of it to make my face clean. Definitely won’t repurchase.

The Body Shop’s Aloe Vera Night and Day Cream

These moisturizers made me really oily by the end of the day and they also had a very plastic like smell.

The Body Shop’s Aloe Vera Calming Toner

Same plastic smell and same problem as the Vitamin E toner. It didn’t feel to be doing much for my face.

The Body Shop’s Aloe Vera Protective Restoring Mask

This is probably the product I am most impressed with. I still have plenty left, but it gave the best results. It still has that plastic scent, unfortunately. I usually put this on last and leave it on overnight. In the morning, my skin is really soft. I still probably won’t repurchase it. But I recommend it if you have dry skin.

All in all, I’m not impressed with these lines from the Body Shop. But I would say that I favored the Vitamin E line over the Aloe Vera.

I need your feedback!

Hey guys! This would probably fall under more of my beauty commentary. But now I want you to give me some advice. This is kind of embarrassing to admit, but I’ve been struggling with flaky scalp for a while now. I’ve tried nearly everything. Selsun Blue used to work for me all the time. I tried it a while back and it let me down. Since then I’ve picked up countless medicated shampoos in the stores and even ordered the Body Shop’s Ginger Scalp Care Shampoo. Still no changes.

I’m about to try Selsun Blue again, but I also thought that maybe I could get some advice from my readers and do some reviews. If some of you have some dandruff remedies, please leave them in some comments and I’ll see about trying them out and writing some reviews.

I also had another idea to run by you guys. I’m thinking about starting to post video reviews up here. Book, beauty, and maybe even some commentary. What do you think? Would you want to see that? Feedback is appreciated.

Back from M.I.A.

Hi everyone! I know I’ve been off the radar for a while now. Things have been a bit busy lately. I’ve been swamped with my freelance writing lately. I took my library test last week, so now it’s just a waiting game. Hopefully, I passed my exam so that my resume will be sent out to all those libraries. That would be my dream job. I must admit it was much harder than I thought it would be. But the instructor informed me that all I needed was a 60.

It won’t be too long till I post another book review. I’m getting closer to the end of Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.  I’m reading the whole collection in one book, so I’ll review each individual novel separately. I’m going through it slower than I would like. It just isn’t holding my attention too much just yet.

As for my beauty reviews, I’m stilling going through the Body Shop products. At the moment, I’m not too impressed with the results. However, I’m still working on the Vitamin E line and there is still the Aloe Vera line sitting in my bathroom. I ran out of moisturizer though, so I have tried the Aloe Vera moisturizer. Meh.

I have discovered LUSH recently and decided to try their “Grease Lightening” acne fighter because my Terminator Ten acne fighter wasn’t as good as the one that came in the AcneFree set. Wow. I love that Grease Lightening stuff! It really reduced some of my larger zits fast. It is really pricey though. It’s about $15 a bottle. But the nice packaging and promise of handmade natural products have reeled me in. The Aloe Vera moisturizers for the Body Shop are really small, so I have ordered the Imperials moisturizer from LUSH and I can’t wait to try it.

Before I end this entry, I want to give a shout out to for nominating me for the Bloggers Recognition Award. Thank you so much! Sorry, I didn’t post it up. I’m a little burned out on typing now. Hopefully, it won’t be too long till the next entry.

Change of Plans and One Review I Forgot

Today, after I got out of the shower and got ready for a shift at Sylvan, I got a call from the boss saying I couldn’t work there. I needed a teaching certificate. You can imagine the anguish I felt. So, I decided that’s it. I’m going to take the test that will allow me to work at the public library. You see, I’d been putting it off because it seemed like more trouble than what it was worth. However, when I went to the website to read on what I needed to know about the test, I discovered that I had been looking at the wrong library position. I want to be a library tech and I was looking at the library page position. The test that the library tech has to take covers reading comprehension, communication skills, and problem solving. That will be a walk in the park for me!

So, I’ll be taking the exam in September. I’m actually much more excited about this because I’ve always wanted to work in a library. The pay, hours, and benefits will be much better too.

With that being said, there was one thing I forgot to include in my reviews yesterday.

The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Cleansing Light Oil

Wow! I love this stuff! I got the idea to buy this from Asian beauty trends. They do a method called “double cleansing.” Basically, they cleanse their face with a cleansing oil like this one before they wash with a face wash. This cleansing oil does a great job of removing make up, especially the stubborn eye make up. It also makes my face much brighter, which is something I need. I plan to put this in my regular routine once I get rid of my Noxema Cleansing Cream. The smell is amazing too! I’m debating on whether or not to buy a face wash from the Face Shop. Since, I have so much stuff already. Maybe if I’m not satisfied with the Body Shop. Try Amazon to order, much cheaper.

A Very Special Product Review Post: Happy Three Years!

Hello everyone! Today marks the third year anniversary of the day my fiance and I started dating. We celebrated yesterday by going to the huge mall in our city, unfortunately, the trip was cut short by a very annoying stomach bug that decided to infect me. Ironically, it hit me right after Michael (fiance) bought me my anniversary present. But more about the present later.

Naturally, I got all dolled up for the occasion and I got to try on a lot of my new goodies, so I’m just going to put them in one razor review! Here we go!

E.L.F. Retractable Kabuki Brush

E.L.F. has a great line of products and their prices are very affordable. I recently purchased a new kabuki brush, but I saw this one at Target and since it was “retractable,” I wanted to give it a try. This E.L.F. brush blows my Walmart bought one right out of the water!

I was able to put on my translucent powder, foundation powder, and blush all just using this one brush! It blended wonderfully and made me look great! I also loved the retractable feature because it will stay cleaner and it is also vegan! Win, win!

AddictiveCosmetics Finishing Translucent Powder in Pearl

This stuff is wonderful and now is one of my favorite make-up supplies. I put it on before applying foundation for hold and then after the foundation because the pearl gives it a nice glow finish. I even sprinkled some over my lipstick and it HELD! Of course, I chose AddictiveCosmetics on Etsy because of her stance on making her items vegan. I can’t wait to try it on eyeliner to see if it holds. I just wasn’t up to wearing any yesterday.

E.L.F. Lengthening and Defining Mascara

Truth be told, I don’t really need a lengthening and defining mascara because I have long lashes, but this E.L.F. brand is extremely easy for me to use with my motor skill problems due to cerebral palsy. I always have trouble using mascara and eyeliner, but this was great and made me look good!

AddictiveCosmetics FIXIT Eye Shadow Primer

Just spray this on your eyelids and wait thirty seconds. I used this wrong by putting it on over the eye shadow, but guess what…it still worked! Best eye shadow primer I’ve ever used. My eye shadow stayed on great. I’ll use it right next time!

Nyx Dewy Finish Make-Up Setting Spray

I bought this setting spray because I was sold on the promise of dew. It is more expensive than the E.L.F. one I have, but I do think it does make my make-up look a bit more glow like. I’ll do more experiments on both and update on which one I prefer.

Wow! How lucky was I that I loved all of this stuff? Now, I’m sure you guys are all wondering what my anniversary present was. You guys will all see how far my obsession goes. Michael bought me a whole line of skin care products from the Body Shop. I know, I know. I already have so much! But I talked to a clerk and explained my skin issues and she gave a recommendation. That review will be coming soon.

I may very well have rosacea because the dryness from it causes skin to itch. We’ll see how it goes. I felt so bad that he dropped $36 dollars for the kit and then had to take care of me all night!

Oh! I’m also employed now as a freelance writer! I start tomorrow. Guess what my first assignment is. SKINCARE. Hahahaaha!
