Chibi Vampire Volume 10 and All Around Happiness

I just finished Chibi Vampire Volume 10 by Yuna Kagesaki today and I wanted to tell you guys about it. Now, I know what you’re thinking. “Why are you starting at Volume 10?” Well, at the time I started this series, I had no intentions of reviving this blog. So…here we are.

The Story

Karin Marker or “Maaka” (some of her family members kept their English surname after they relocated to Japan) is a vampire and so is her mother, father, big brother, and little sister. However, Karin is very different from her family. Instead of taking blood, Karin is a “blood maker.” What this means is that she has an excess of blood built up in her body every month and she must “pass” that blood onto a human by biting them or she will get very sick, or worse, lose consciousness and possibly die. Though her family does love her, she is considered a burden on the family due to this.

Soon, a new boy named Kenta Usui starts at her school and her place of work, Karin soon finds out that she has an affinity for his type and he makes her blood increase. However, in this world, vampires don’t have a favorite blood type, they choose their means by personality quirks. They “suck” the personality trait out of the victim and it’s only a temporary thing. Karin is attracted to Kenta’s misfortune and she vows to make him happy in order to stop her blood from increasing. Of course, they fall in love in the process.

Volume 10

The story is really starting to get interesting as we see why Karin’s grandmother is against her and Kenta being together. Throw in the new half vampire character (who I didn’t like at first) as the catalyst and I can see that Kenta and Karin may have some issues soon. I’ll bet they make it through.

There is also an added bonus story at the end of how Karin’s grandmother ended up with her grandfather. It is really cute, even though I find the grandmother to be an unlikable character.

My Rating

I gave this volume 4/5 stars on Goodreads, mostly because I wanted to see more Kirin and Kenta fluff, but you know, we have a plot to continue. Even though I do like where the story is going, they are one of my new favorite couples and I want to see more of their love story!

They are so cute!

The Anime

For what it’s worth, I did enjoy the anime for what it was, but it’s not great. Honestly, the manga is like a warm bowl of soup for me; very comforting and it keeps me invested. I would suggest the anime if you really liked the manga and wanted to check it out. I watched the English dub and the voice acting had a lot to be desired. I think this one could use a redub and maybe drop the Winner plot (a character created for the anime). I did like the character, but they could have just stuck closer to the manga. Be prepared for a lot of cheese if you watch the anime, but sometimes a little cheese is what the doctor ordered.

Additional Musings

I also wanted to take the time out to tell you guys about the awesome day I had! I got the payment for my first healthcare article today and I will have more work from that client this week. I’m still on the hunt for more work to supplement my income, but this is a great start!

Tomorrow is also my partner and I’s 10th year anniversary. I am so excited!

We’re going to see an anime film in theaters on Saturday to celebrate, so you guys know I will post about it!

Have you read Chibi Vampire or seen the anime? What do you think about it? Let me know in the comments below!
