It’s been a wild ride with Klarissa and Naz and I have to admit, I’m a little sad to see them go. Unless J.M. Darhower decides to expand on this series this is the final installment. Target On Our Backs, is in my humble opinion, the strongest of the series.

Honestly, when I think back about when I first purchased the first book, i had different expectations for the series. I didn’t think it was going to be a love story. I’m not saying I’m not happy with it, but I thought the series was going to be about Klarissa escaping from an abusive lover.

But this is a love story. I still don’t really care for Naz much, but Klarissa surprised me in this one by actually doing something badass. There was also some surprising twists in this one when it comes to the villains.

After the events of the second book, Torture to Her Soul, Ignazio is in hot water for the murder of a mob boss. Both him and Klarissa are constantly worried about keeping one another safe. So as you can imagine, there is a lot of gory scenes, but what really surprised me was how sad the ending was, It was bittersweet. All in all, I really enjoyed this series.

I gave this novel 4/5 stars on Goodreads.

I enjoyed the first book, so I was happy to enter Naz and Karissa’s world once again. This time around the entire novel is told from Naz’s point of view. I enjoyed that change of pace and it was nice to see things from his perspective, especially in order to find out how Iganizo truly feels about Karissa.

Torture to Her Soul picks up right where Monster In His Eyes left off. I found this one to be slower than the first, but that’s understandable since Naz and Karissa are at odds with each other by the end of the first book. Most of the beginning of the book is a lot of give and take between the two characters. The novel picks up during the middle and end, that’s where all the action is.

A lot of the fans of the series seem to swoon over Ignazio, and no matter what I just can’t seem to like him. I still enjoy the series very much, but after all he’s done to Karissa, I could personally never forgive him. He does have an epiphany at the end of this book, but in my eyes, too much damage has been done. However, I still can’t wait to see what happens to these star-crossed lovers in the final book.

I gave this book 4/5 stars on Goodreads.

Book Review: Monster In His Eyes by J.M. Darhower

I’m back from another hiatus! For the past couple of weeks, I’ve been in unbearable pain. It got so bad that my fiance had to rush me to the hospital. But I’m all better now and back with another written review before I post the video review up. I will have the videos for this and the previous read Girls’ Guide to Fishing and Hunting up sometime this week. Until then, enjoy this review.

The protagonist is stupid. But don’t get me wrong, I still enjoyed the book. 18 year old Klarissa Reed is free from her overprotective mother’s paranoia when she embarks on her first year of college. One night Klarissa decides to go out partying with her dorm mate, Melody, and her life is changed forever when she meets Ignazio Vitale.

“Naz” is a lot older than young Klarissa, in his late thirties, but that doesn’t stop him from pursuing her and courting her. If you want to call it courting. He wines her and dines her with expensive food and clothes, and occasional rough sex with choking. You know, the normal stuff.

I know I should dislike this book because it has many troupes that I dislike. To start, I mentioned that Klarissa is stupid. She gets involved with a man she hardly knows and doesn’t take off when she finds out he hangs with criminals. I would have flown the coop! She also needs very little prompting falling for him, so this book is guilty of insta-love! I also usually tend to dislike books with a lot of sex scenes because plot usually takes a backseat to said sex.

But in this book, the plot is strong! This plot really kept me at the edge of my wheelchair and I kept wanting to know what was going to happen. So, I guess I can forgive the insta-love and numerous sex scenes, because the plot twist at the end of this book really threw me for a loop! I will be reading the second one soon and the third one comes out this month! I’ve already pre-ordered it.

I gave this book 4/5 stars on Goodreads.
